Senator Dinniman's Bicentennial Celebration

On February 12th, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, Senator Andy Dinniman hosted a celebration of President Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday, at West Chester's Lincoln Building.  First and second graders from St. Agnes School, West Chester Friends School, and Chester County Family Academy attended the event, which was held at West Chester's Lincoln Biography Building.  Award-winning author Jen Bryant presented a reading form her book, Lincoln's Fish, which is based on a true story from President Lincoln's early life.

Students from the Chester County Family Academy performed an original song, Lincoln was His Name, co-written by the students and musician Geri Smith.  A group of seventh and eighth grade re-enactors, the Little Lincolns, delivered a recitation of Lincoln's Gettysburg address.  In addition, tours were given, focusing on President Lincoln's connection to Chester County, where he visited twice.

Senator Dinniman, summing up the event, stated that "Today marks the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth and I couldn't think of a better way to recognize the lasting contribution and legacy of Abraham Lincoln, than to bring together our young people to learn about President Lincoln and what he meant and still means to America."
